By focusing on these four dimensions, we aim to help players quickly understand which yo-yos match different play styles and preferences. For example, if you’re someone who wants to practice long sleep tricks, you’ll likely gravitate toward models with strong spinning force. If you’re interested in speed play, you might be drawn to models with higher controllability. Or maybe, once you try a few out, you’ll discover that you actually prefer the solid and stable feel of a heavier yo-yo.

To help you visualize and compare these questions more clearly, we’ve created a map with two simple axes and plotted each model accordingly.
Horizontal Axis (Functional): Controllability ↔ Stability & Spinning Force
- Heavier yo-yos tend to offer more stability and longer spin times. However, they can also feel a bit sluggish, making them less ideal for fast-paced tricks.
Lighter yo-yos are easier to control and excel in quick, snappy movements, though they often lack the same spin duration or stability.
In other words, this axis is based on the idea that “ease of control” and “stability/spin power” are in a trade-off relationship. It’s a helpful guide for figuring out what matters most based on your style and skill level.
Vertical Axis (Emotional): Solid Feel ↔ Soft Feel
- When you throw a yo-yo, you might notice:
“This one feels a bit stiff and sharp”
or
“This one feels really soft, like it melts into my hand.”
These sensations are less about performance and more about personal preference or emotional response. Some people enjoy a firmer feel—perhaps appreciating the crisp, responsive reaction. Others prefer a softer feel—looking for something that feels smooth and natural in the hand.
By combining both axes, you’ll find a variety of options—like a “light and controllable yo-yo with a firm feel,” or a “heavier, stable yo-yo with a soft, comforting feel.”
That’s why we’ve developed five yo-yos based on widely recognized shape types. Rather than assigning each one a unique name, #UNBRANDED intentionally uses the name of the shape itself as the product name. These shapes serve as reference points, and we invite you to explore where each one lands on the map—and how they align with your own playstyle and preferences.
